Connect to the network

If you can install Python, you can install Reticulum. Everything else follows.

Reticulum is a Python 3 software suite. If you cannot install Python 3, you will have a very hard time installing Reticulum. If you can install pip, things become extremely easy.

It's worth noting that this command does not in any way break system packagesall executables are placed in /usr/local/bin. But it does technically step around your package manager, since the packages are installed on the side, without it knowing. You'll need to handle updating them yourself.

Console client

python3 -m pip install --break-system-packages nomadnet

Windows client

There is a Windows client called Nomad Navigator, by Node Star. It's fully graphical and has all the features of the original NomadNet software. A bit easier to use on Windows compared to the NomadNet CLI, but not required or needed in any way to access the Reticulum network.

Sideband

Sideband is a mobile and desktop client for Reticulum. It gives you a graphical interface on Android, Linux, and macOS, and can run both as a client and as a node. If you'd rather not work from a terminal, this is the way in.

Two simple ways to upgrade pip packages.

The direct way:

python3 -m pip install --upgrade --break-system-packages <package>

Not intuitiveyou use the install command on something already installed. The other way is pip-review:

python3 -m pip install --break-system-packages pip-review
pip-review

This gives you an interactive prompt to upgrade all pip packages installed on your system.

These are example settings for the .reticulum/config file. You are not limited to these hosts, use as many of these and others as you like.

Using the PhantomNET nodes below will give you several uplinks to the Reticulum testnet. You should be within three hops of all PhantomNET services or nodes. That said, using only PhantomNET nodes creates a single point of failureso in the spirit of decentralisation, additional well-known public nodes are also listed. This way you should always have some kind of link to the network, even if PhantomNET infrastructure goes down.
